The school crossing in the centre of Trinity (38905284)

PLANS have been submitted to convert a caretaker’s store at Trinity School into a new after-school community space.

The proposed works would see the small store, located in a more recent extension to the Grade 3-listed Victorian parish school, renovated to become a habitable social area with tea-making facilities, bay seating and a WC.

The planning application, submitted by Jersey Property Holdings on behalf of the Government, describes the changes as “minimal and practical, whilst remaining sympathetic of the Grade 3 listing of the site”.

According to a Planning Design and Heritage Impact Statement submitted as part of the application, the store sits in a section of the school that is not listed, meaning “the proposed works to the caretaker’s store will not directly impact the two Grade 3 listed buildings.”

The report adds that “the proposed works are minor in scale and seek to make the existing space habitable and functional while being sympathetic and complimentary of the existing school’s Grade 3 listed architectural features”.

If approved, the external east elevation would be altered to include a new double-glazed PVC window and a single entrance door. Inside, the building would be thermally upgraded to meet current standards.

The aim, the document states, if for the space to become “an integral hub for the local community in and around Trinity”, adding that “the proposal does not seek to extend the footprint or height of the existing building” and is designed to be “sympathetic of the existing architecture”.

The application, which has been graded as ‘minor’, is currently under consideration.
