Young bookworms are being invited to take part in a returning bookmark design competition as part of the Jersey Festival of Words.
Following a hugely popular response last year, students in Year 3 to Year 8 are being invited to bring their favourite book character to life on paper, be it a fire-breathing dragon or a criminal detective.
Sponsored by HIGHVERN, the bookmark competition has been relaunched to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the literary festival – which runs from 19 to 28 September.
Like 2024, entries will be judged by a team from Highvern and displayed as part of the festival.
Winning entries will be printed and distributed, and the winning artists will receive free tickets to a festival event of their choice, and a literary goodie bag worth £200.
Madhu Dhir Singh, marketing lead at HIGHVERN, said the firm decided to relaunch the competition as Islanders “couldn’t get enough” of the entries last year.
“We had such incredible feedback last year – including from proud grandparents who couldn’t get enough of the bookmarks,” she said.
She added: “We’re proud to encourage creativity and storytelling in the young readers, and we can’t wait to see which characters come to life this year.”
The deadline for designs is Friday 20 June.
