JERSEY will host more than 80 academics, researchers and professionals from around the world next month for a conference focused on the challenges and opportunities facing island communities.
The Islands and Island Studies International Conference, organised by the Jersey International Centre of Advanced Studies, will run from 4 to 6 June.
Over three days, attendees will explore themes around island life, including sustainability, heritage and climate resilience.
JICAS director Sean Dettman said the conference would put Jersey at the centre of academic conversation about island life.
“More than 60 academics, researchers and lifelong learners will be travelling from around the globe to see for themselves why Jersey is an ideal place to learn about islands and island communities,” he said.
Mr Dettman also emphasised the level of local support behind the conference.
“Dozens of Jersey-based organisations and institutions have come together to demonstrate what this island can achieve when we work together and that these types of events matter.”
He said that he had received support from the government’s Economy and Environment departments, Ports of Jersey, Jersey Heritage, the Société Jersiaise and many local businesses.
“This really is a watershed moment for JICAS and Jersey more widely,” he added.
