A TEENAGER has been arrested after a Second World War truck was vandalised at St Catherine’s Bunker earlier this week.
The States police said the teenager was arrested and interviewed on Wednesday afternoon and confirmed that two other suspects had been identified as part of the ongoing investigation into the damage to the 80-year-old GMC military truck.
The incident took place in the early hours of Monday morning at the historic site that once served as a stronghold for German forces during the Occupation.
In a statement issued on Thursday, police chief Robin Smith said: “I share Islanders’ dismay following the act of vandalism to an important artefact that reminds us all of a crucial period in our history. Yesterday [Wednesday], States of Jersey Police arrested and interviewed one suspect and identified two others.
Mr Smith said he recognised “all the hard work of the volunteers in getting the historic truck ready for Liberation 80”.
Jersey Bunker Tours, which runs the heritage site in partnership with Jersey Seafaris and Ports of Jersey, said previously that they were focussed on the electrical issues with the truck in order to get it running in time for 9 May.
“It’s a tough old truck, and we will work with a local classic car specialist on the broken panels and bonnet damage,” they said.
Jersey Bunker Tours is developing the site into a heritage attraction in partnership with Jersey Seafaris and Ports of Jersey.
