JERSEY’S new fast ferry – which will run the St Malo route – has carried out berthing trials in the Harbour ahead of it entering service this weekend.

DFDS’ delayed ship Tarifa Jet arrived in the Island on Friday morning, two weeks after it was meant to be launched.

“Technical issues” with a ramp on the vessel meant it had to remain in Portland until upgrades were signed off by the UK’s Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

Freight and passenger vessel Stena Vinga – leased by DFDS to run the Portsmouth route – operated the St Malo route while Tarifa Jet was in refit.

Replacement vessel Côte d’Albâtre has been operating the Jersey to Portsmouth route.
