A STRUCTURAL engineering firm is among the latest businesses in the Island to have received accreditation as a “Jersey Living Wage” employer.

Rothwells Structural Engineers received the accreditation through a campaign run by Catholic social action charity Caritas Jersey, which is licensed by the Living Wage Foundation in the UK to manage and co-ordinate the promotion of a “living wage” in the Island.

The rate, which is separate from the minimum wage – that rose to £13 per hour this month – takes into account the cost of living, taxes and the value of benefits available to working people on low incomes. It is currently set at £14.13 per hour.

Rothwells managing director John Woodward described the accreditation as a “proud step” for the firm.

“We hope to inspire others to follow suit,” he said.

“As a whole we can make a significant difference to our community.”

He continued: “By signing up for the Living Wage accreditation, Rothwells Structural Engineers reaffirms its dedication to fostering a positive and supportive working environment for its employees and contributing to the wider goal of reducing poverty in Jersey.

“By leading with fairness and equality, we aim to set an example within the structural engineering industry and beyond.”
