A 28-YEAR-OLD man has been fined a total of £1,350 for cocaine possession, owning cars without valid insurance and driving while using a mobile phone.
Javier Oswaldo Gomez admitted the offences in the Magistrate’s Court and said: “I’m completely sorry for my actions.”
Crown Advocate Lauren Taylor, prosecuting, said Gomez had been found with a small bag of cocaine on 29 August 2022.
She said one of his vehicles was seen parked at Jersey Airport on 29 July last year without a valid window insurance disc, and another was noticed in Langley Park on 27 August.
Crown Advocate Taylor told the court that on 19 September Gomez drove along St Aubin’s Road while looking down at his mobile phone.
Gomez said he had not used drugs since being arrested for possessing them and had received help from the Island’s Alcohol and Drugs Service.
He added that he had been on the phone to a family member on 19 September.
Relief Magistrate Sarah Fitz fined him £300 for drugs possession and £350 for each of the three motoring offences, and allowed him to pay at the rate of £200 per week.
