The Stena Vinga

A 125-metre-long DFDS freight and passenger vessel arrived in the Harbour yesterday morning as part of “essential” berthing trials.

Stena Vinga, which has capacity for 400 people and 200 cars, will run the Portsmouth to Jersey route when it enters service at the end of the month, when Danish firm DFDS takes over from Condor Ferries.

The berthing trials will be carried out until tomorrow.

Once DFDS begins its Jersey operations on 28 March, the vessel will primarily operate the evening passenger and freight service to and from Portsmouth.

Harbourmaster, Captain Bill Sadler, said: “These berthing trials are an essential part of ensuring that the Stena Vinga can dock safely and efficiently in Elizabeth Harbour.”

He added: “The trial will also allow the crew to become familiar with the Harbour’s layout and operations.

“We have been working closely with DFDS to mobilise the new service and I’m looking forward to seeing it in operation.”
