AN application for the Island’s new £710 million General Hospital at Overdale has been approved.

The Planning Committee – a panel of politicians who decide on major and controversial applications – gave the plans the green light on Thursday afternoon.

Planning officers had recommended that the application be approved – with a series of conditions attached.

The seven members of the committee unanimously voted to support the recommendation made by officers.

The application for an acute hospital at Overdale, with an ambulatory facility and health village, includes the demolition of existing buildings and structures at the site, and alterations to access including a new pedestrian and cycle route.
