JERSEY Electricity workers have travelled to Northern Ireland following Storm Eowyn to help restore power after hundreds of thousands of households were left without electricity.
A team of three overhead linesmen have been repairing power lines and restoring critical supply links to affected homes after arriving at the weekend. More engineers joined their colleagues on Monday.
Jersey Electricity chief executive Chris Ambler said that while their organisation was “relatively small”, the company believed that “every contribution counts in times of crisis”.
Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and Scotland bore the brunt of the devastating storm which battered the British Isles last week, crippling infrastructure and killing two people. A record gust of 114mph was recorded in Galway in the Republic of Ireland.
Mr Ambler said he was proud of his team and that their efforts “reinforced the importance of mutual support within the power sector”.
Mr Ambler added: “Our thoughts are with all those affected by Storm Eowyn. While Jersey Electricity is a relatively small organisation in our sector, we believe that every contribution counts in times of crisis. It’s a privilege to be able to give back and support our sector colleagues and communities in the UK, particularly after the invaluable help we received during Storm Ciarán. I want to thank our team for their commitment and wish them a safe and successful mission in Northern Ireland.”
