MORE than £260,000 has been awarded to disability charities over the past four years “thanks to the generosity” of Channel Islands Lottery players, according to a minister.

Economic Development Minister Kirsten Morel said the lottery-funded grants, which were distributed to charities by the Jersey Community Foundation and the Association of Jersey Charities, supported a “diverse range of charities”.

A total of £262,507 in proceeds from the Channel Islands Lottery has gone to 11 projects since the beginning of 2020.

Healing Waves and Maison des Landes were among several charities to have benefited from the funding.

Healing Waves was awarded £31,012 in May last year by the JCF and is using the funding to deliver “life-changing ocean therapy” for Islanders living with disabilities, long-term conditions and mental-health struggles. The charity also provides additional support for their families, enabling them to take part in sea activities such as surfing and other water sports.

Maison des Landes was awarded £30,000 in June 2023 by the Association of Jersey Charities and is using the grant to fund a “community hub” at its hotel.

Other charities to receive funding from the Channel Islands Lottery since 2020 include: Laugh, Move & Groove; Les Amis; Jersey Cheshire Home; Jersey Employment Trust; Wetwheels Jersey and Aspire Trust.

Deputy Morel said: “These grants enable organisations like Healing Waves and Maison des Landes to continue their essential work, providing vital services, support and opportunities that make a significant impact in the lives of Islanders living with disabilities and their families.

“The Channel Islands Lottery is proud to play a role in nurturing a more inclusive community and empowering those who need it most.”
