A 21-YEAR-OLD man who ordered a drink in a pub, knocked it over and then fell asleep at the bar before becoming aggressive to an officer on the way to police headquarters has been fined for breaching his probation order.
Sean Brandon De La Haye was banned from licensed premises on 19 August last year for being drunk and disorderly in a pub.
The Magistrate’s Court heard that the ban was still in place when De La Haye visited Benfica Sports Bar in Cattle Street on Sunday lunchtime.
Advocate Paul Lee, prosecuting, said De La Haye went into the bar in order to use the toilets and then bought a drink.
“He knocked it over and fell asleep, lying on the bar,” he said.
The police were called and Advocate Lee added: “On the way to police headquarters, he became aggressive towards an officer.”
De La Haye admitted that he was in breach of the order.
Advocate Stephen Wauchope, defending, said it was De La Haye’s first breach of the order, adding: “He has kept his nose clean until this point. He recognises he has a problem with alcohol. All he did was fall asleep. He wasn’t kicking off, he wasn’t disorderly.”
The order had been due to expire in August but Assistant Magistrate Adam Clark extended it to November and fined De La Haye £300.
He told him: “It was an order of the court and it must be obeyed.”
Of his drinking, he added: “The time to sort this out is now.”
