ISLANDERS will have another chance to discuss the government’s proposals to overhaul Jersey’s decades-old alcohol licensing legislation at a drop-in session later this month.
The proposed updates to the 1974 Licensing Law, which regulates the sale and consumption of alcohol in the Island, were announced last month by the Economy Department in an attempt to make it simpler and less expensive for businesses to operate. Allowing “happy hours” and two-for-one cocktail deals are among the proposals.
The government launched a four-week consultation in December to gather Islanders’ views, after first consulting public health and the hospitality industry.
The first drop-in session took place this week and another is scheduled for Wednesday 22 January; it is due to take place in the government’s new headquarters in Union Street.

If approved, the new law is expected to come into force by 2026.
