A JERSEY première of Bergerac is in the works, those behind the reboot have revealed.

Filming for the new six-episode series, which included scenes shot in a number of locations throughout the Island over the summer, is complete.

Announced in April, the show – commissioned by BBC-owned broadcaster UKTV – is due to offer a “contemporary twist” on the popular detective drama created by Robert Banks Stewart, which starred John Nettles and ran on the BBC between 1981 and 1991.

It is being directed by Peaky Blinders director Colm McCarthy and features Irish actor Damien Molony in the lead role of Jim Bergerac.

Brian Constantine, the series’ executive producer, explained that the focus was now on the première, due to take place in early 2025, which will see a “red-carpet event” and drinks reception attended by cast members.

It is being organised by Westward Studios with support from corporate sponsors.

Mr Constantine said: “We are thrilled that plans are now in motion for the Jersey première of Bergerac. The Island is as much of a star as DCI Jim Bergerac himself and we can’t wait to celebrate that with Islanders early in the new year.”

Organisers are seeking to recreate the excitement of previous red-carpet events held in the Island, such as the Superman première in 2013.

It is also hoped that local charities will be able to benefit from the donation of tickets for raffles and auctions.

Mr Constantine added: “The cast thoroughly enjoyed their time here, especially Damien Molony, who is eager to return to Jersey for the event.

“The team is also encouraged by the strong interest from corporate sponsors, who will help make the event both glamorous and memorable. It will be a fantastic opportunity to thank everyone who worked so hard to bring the show to life.”
