PART of Rouge Bouillon will remain closed “until further notice” after a sinkhole opened on the road just before Christmas.
The hole, which was caused by a burst water main, also resulted in cracks appearing in the walls of the building on the corner of Clarendon Road and Rouge Bouillon on 18 December.
In an update issued this week, the Infrastructure and Environment Department said the building “continues to be monitored closely by building surveyors on behalf of property owners, as it is considered unsafe due to a risk of building collapse”.
The statement continued: “Until the building is considered safe and a course of action has been agreed by all parties involved, Rouge Bouillon (between Clarendon Road and Palmyra Road) will remain closed until further notice.
“The Government of Jersey continues to liaise with the property owners and their insurers, and are seeking a resolution to ensure the road can reopen as soon as it is safe to do so.”
Diversions remain in place and Clarendon Road is open southbound towards town.
Nearby schools are to open as normal on Monday, but parents are encouraged to check any emails sent by schools for further updates.
Motorists are also being encouraged to allow extra time for their journeys, as delays are expected. A further update will be provided on Thursday.
