A WOMAN has admitted stealing money from the social enterprise where she worked for a year.
Kelly Louise Vallois worked at the Butterfly Café, a non-profit venture in St Helier which provides training and jobs for abuse survivors, from July 2023 to July 2024 – its first year of operation.
The Magistrate’s Court heard that during her time there Vallois had taken a “large” sum of money, the exact amount of which has not been determined.
Legal adviser Kerry Grieve, prosecuting, said Vallois had performed general duties and had dealt with cash. She said the café’s manager discovered that Vallois was taking money from the till and that she had also defrauded customers.
“This suggests that a large sum of money has been taken,” Ms Grieve said.
Advocate Allana Binnie, defending, pointed out that Vallois had pleaded guilty early and had also sold her car for £1,500 in order to ensure she was able to pay any compensation.
Assistant Magistrate Adam Clarke ordered a pre-sentence report to be compiled and released Vallois on bail. She was ordered to return to the court for sentencing on 6 February.
