JERSEY’S new children’s library has reopened following a “mammoth” 18-month refit and will provide a “lively and welcoming” environment to young Islanders, according to the government.
The remodel of the space in Jersey Library features a nautical theme along with “more nooks to curl up with a good book”, and was inspired by thoughts and ideas from local children.
As well as the upgrades to the children’s area, a mobile library, designed to visit school playgrounds, residential homes and outside events, is due to resume operations on Monday.
Education Minister Rob Ward said he was “delighted” to reopen the library space following what the government described as a “mammoth” project, which began in summer 2023.
Deputy Ward said: “The new library provides a lively and welcoming environment for our children and young people to share and engage with literacy and reading.”
Chief librarian Edward Jewell said: “The team here have done sterling work to get the children’s library ready.
“I’d like to commend them for their work, tenacity and dedication to ensuring that the children and families who use this library always get the very best individual support and service.”
