Jersey Met has issued an ice warning, with temperatures set to drop to 1°C tonight (39599945)

AN ice warning has been issued by Jersey Met as the temperature drops approaching the first weekend of the new year.

The temperature is forecast to drop to 1°C tonight – potentially the lowest temperature of the winter so far, with a low of 1.3°C having been recorded on 22 November.

Forecaster Bryan de Gruchy said that with light winds and breaks in the cloud, there was a possibility that areas of lying water would freeze, creating potentially hazardous surfaces tomorrow morning.

Friday’s forecast is for a dry day, with a maximum of 6°C and the overnight temperature dropping to 2°C.

It is estimated that the maximum temperature could be as low as 4°C on Saturday with south-easterly winds of up to force 7 during the afternoon as wintry showers move across the Island.

Mr de Gruchy said between 10 and 15 millimetres of precipitation could be recorded during Saturday afternoon and evening, with the possibility of both sleet and rain. The following day may see a similar volume of rain and will remain windy, he added, although the temperature is set to rise to a high of 10°C.
