HUNDREDS of Year 3 pupils are to get access to free swimming lessons in an initiative designed to teach those who could not normally afford it to learn how to swim.

The new programme is run by the Bosdet Foundation, which is funded by the profits made at Les Ormes’ facilities and supports projects for children and families.

The foundation said it would distribute vouchers that cover the cost of the lessons through schools, as well as through charity groups such as Centrepoint and Ace of Clubs.

Held at Aquasplash, the lessons aim to ensure that children who wouldn’t normally have the chance to learn how to swim get to do so with lessons the charity said would be free, high-quality and taught by experts.

Charity manager Alan Le Pavoux – who himself teaches swim safety – said: “Swimming is not only a fun activity; it’s a vital skill that saves lives.

“Our new swim programme will make sure that more children in Jersey have the opportunity to learn to swim, gain confidence in the water, and understand the importance of water safety. This programme will have a significant impact on swim safety across the Island.”
