BRITTANY Ferries has taken the Economic Development Minister to court after the the operator was not awarded the contract to run Jersey’s ferry services.
The French ferry firm, which owns current operator Condor Ferries, wants a judicial review of Deputy Kirsten Morel’s decision to pick Danish firm DFDS earlier this month.
The Royal Court has granted Brittany Ferries – Guernsey’s preferred bidder – leave “on a limited basis” to challenge Deputy Morel’s decision following an application made on Friday.
A further procedural hearing was held on Monday, at which DFDS made its own application against the decision.
In an update, the Royal Court greffe said: “For reasons set out in a judgment which will shortly be published, the court granted Bretagne leave on a limited basis to challenge the ministerial decision of the Respondent on or about 3 December 2024 not to award a long-term operation concession contract for a passenger and freight ferry service operating routes between the Bailiwick of Jersey, the United Kingdom and France to the Applicant and award it to DFDS A/S (DFDS)”.
