A PENSIONER has proved “fundraising can be fun” after raising almost £1,400 for the Poppy Appeal.
Margaret Senior (86) is known for her fancy dress, especially her Chelsea Pensioner costume, which she wears every year to collect donations for the Royal British Legion. Mrs Senior also raises money by selling handmade Poppy Appeal-themed clothes hangers, with 70 sold this year. And she has already begun sewing more hangers for next year.
In the last year, she raised a total of £1,380, around double the amount of the previous year.
Mrs Senior, a former Pride of Jersey Award nominee, said she was grateful for the support she has received and for the compliments on her costume.
Poppy Appeal organiser Alison Opfermann said: “Margaret has volunteered for us for some years now and always thinks of new and interesting ways to raise money for the Poppy Appeal.
“Anyone who goes anywhere near Holme Grown during the appeal will have seen her in her Chelsea Pensioner outfit. She totally proves the point that fundraising can be fun.”
