A SINKHOLE caused by a burst water main on Rouge Bouillon that led to a section of road being closed earlier this week was still being assessed on Thursday as work continues to make the area safe.
In an update issued on Thursday afternoon, the Infrastructure Department said that diversions remained in place – though Clarendon Road is now open southbound towards town.
The hole appeared by the entrance to College Gardens on Wednesday, with the Jersey Fire and Rescue Service later confirming that it had been caused by a burst water main underneath the road.
It also resulted in cracks appearing in the walls of the building on the corner of Clarendon Road and Rouge Bouillon, prompting investigations by building control to determine whether or not the property is safe.
Islanders are being advised to travel to the area only if necessary, while building monitoring continues and government teams assess how best to repair the hole.
Parents collecting children from Janvrin School have been advised to park at Waitrose and walk via Drury Lane and College Gardens to reach the school, while parents collecting from d’Auvergne are being asked to walk – if possible – or to drive via Lower King’s Cliff (opposite The Inn).
