THE Shelter Trust’s annual Soup Kitchen fundraiser is due to take place in the Royal Square tomorrow.

Islanders will be able to choose from a selection of soups donated by 40 chefs from local hotels, restaurants and organisations.

Funds raised will support the work of the Trust, which provides accommodation and support services for the homeless community in Jersey.

A minimum donation of £3 by cash or card is asked for on the day, in exchange for a mug of soup and some bread.

There will also be festive music and carol singing by school and Island choirs.

Scheduled to start from 10.30am, the event is expected to see more than 3,000 cups of soup and 3,000 chunks of bread served over a four-hour period – or until the soups run out.

Richard Robins of the Shelter Trust said: “Each year, we are looking for ways to raise awareness of the important work delivered by the Shelter Trust and I’m excited to announce that this year, as well as serving a fantastic range of soups, we are launching the Shelter Trust Soup Kitchen recipe book which will be on sale at the event.

“Featuring recipes from Shelter Trust chefs, local hotels and restaurants and Trust supporters, the book priced at £5 will make an excellent Christmas present or stocking filler.

“We are grateful to everyone who supported the content, design and print of this book, ensuring every penny raised will go directly to the Shelter Trust. By buying this collection, you’re helping us provide essential meals to those who need them most.”
