DURRELL has announced that its interim chief executive is taking on the role permanently.
Rebecca Brewer’s appointment as the wildlife organisation’s chief executive followed an “extensive global selection process”.
Ms Brewer first accepted the top position at the end of 2023, stepping in for Dr Lesley Dickie, who resigned after scrutiny over the treatment of staff and animals at Jersey Zoo made national headlines.
Ms Brewer previously served as the organisation’s chief financial officer and operations manager.
She said she was “proud to be given the opportunity to lead Durrell”.
Ms Brewer added: “I look forward to working with my colleagues and our partners to develop and deliver an ambitious and sustainable strategy with Gerald’s legacy at its heart, that carries Durrell into the future. I am truly excited for our next chapter and to build on our incredible success to develop a wilder, healthier and more colourful world for both people and wildlife.”
