A 55-YEAR-OLD man who indecently exposed himself three times and sexually assaulted a paramedic has been jailed for seven months – and warned he could be deported on his release.

Mariusz Boguslaw Madej exposed himself while lying on a lawn in Parade Gardens in June, the Magistrate’s Court heard.

Advocate Lauren Taylor, prosecuting, said: “There were people in the park, including children in the playground nearby.

“A woman said she was disgusted by what she saw and called the police.”

Madej exposed himself again on two separate occasions in September while standing on the balcony of his flat, in full view of a neighbour.

And Advocate Taylor said that on another occasion in September he sexually assaulted a paramedic who had been called to his aid in the Coop Grand Marché supermarket in town, when he was unable to stand up. As she put him in an ambulance he pushed his face into her crotch – footage of the incident recorded on a police body-worn camera was shown in court.

“He was interviewed the next day but said he couldn’t remember anything because he was drunk,” the advocate said.

Advocate Heidi Heath, defending, said Madej had apologised for his “stupid actions” and added: “This is his first time in the criminal justice system.

“It has taught him a lesson and given him pause for thought.”

However Assistant Magistrate Adam Harrison said a jail sentence was unavoidable, telling Madej: “Any of these four offences would cross the custodial threshold.

“Even for a first offence and with a guilty plea there will be a presumption towards custody.”

The court heard that Madej was Polish and had lived in Jersey for 18 months. But the Assistant Magistrate noted that he had no dependants in the Island and was not classed as an essential worker, so would be recommended for deportation to his native country after serving his sentence.
