A PRO-PALESTINE activist has been arrested in Jersey on terrorism charges late on Friday morning.
Natalie Strecker, who describes herself as a human rights campaigner and has been involved with the Jersey Palestine Solidarity Campaign, was arrested on the morning of Friday 15 November.
The States police confirmed that having received a complaint, they arrested a 49-year-old woman on suspicion of an offence under Article 13.1 of the Terrorism (Jersey) Law 2002, which relates to inviting support for a proscribed organisation.
In a statement, Ms Strecker said she was “the latest victim in the dangerous misapplication of current terrorism laws”.
She added that she “remains steadfast and would like to state at this time is that we are moving into dangerous territory when those who are trying to stop a genocide are being criminalised and those defending one are being supported by the establishment”.
She said she “[thanked] everyone for their continued support and would like to remind people to keep the focus on the crimes taking place in the Middle East right now and the importance of adhering to international law.”
Ms Strecker is released on conditional bail and continues to be investigated.
