THE Island’s financial and environmental interests were discussed by business executives and senior politicians at an event in America attended by Jersey’s External Relations Minister.
Deputy Ian Gorst was among a number of officials who took part in the 2024 International Monetary Fund and World Bank Group annual meeting in Washington DC.
In a statement, the government said Deputy Gorst attended the meeting to “further global relations with key financial service and political partners”.
He met UK Chancellor Rachel Reeves, as well as the UK’s ambassador to the United States, Dame Karen Pierce, and Oman’s Minister of Finance and chair of Oman Investment Authority, H.E. Sultan bin Salem al-Habsi.
Deputy Gorst also discussed sustainable energy and the environment with Ed Miliband, UK Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero.
The statement added: “Deputy Gorst and senior officials had very productive meetings with global executives of Jersey banking institutions, where conversations focused on the positive Moneyval report and the implementation of Pillar 2, and shared aspirations for growing their Jersey business.”
