“MUCH-NEEDED” highway maintenance will start on the Esplanade this weekend.

The works will be carried out on the eastbound carriageway from Saturday 26 October to Sunday 3 November.

The Esplanade and Victoria Avenue will remain open in both directions during the work, with a contraflow to ensure there are two lanes open in each direction.

Signed diversions will also be in place, and the government has advised that the new routes will be “especially important” for those with an appointment at the General Hospital.

Roadworks are due to be carried out on the Esplanade (Government of Jersey) (39202855)

Drivers approaching from the east will need to use Castle Street to get to Patriotic Street car park, while those coming from the west will need to use Cheapside and Gloucester Street to access Kensington Place and Patriotic Street.

“We are sorry for any inconvenience caused. The work is much-needed, as some sections were last improved more than 20 years ago,” the government said in a statement.

More details on the diversions and working times can be found at gov.je in the roadworks section.
