JERSEY is today due to host leaders from the police forces of the Crown Dependencies and Gibraltar as part of “vital” collaboration to help improve law enforcement efforts.

The Small Island Forum is expected to include Jersey’s police chief, Robin Smith (pictured), Guernsey’s outgoing head of law enforcement, Ruari Hardy, Gibraltar’s police commissioner, Richard Ullger, and the Isle of Man’s chief constable, Russell Foster.

Announcing the event, the States police said the forum’s objective was “to enhance collaboration and improve policing across the Crown Dependencies and Gibraltar”.

“The forum provides a platform for discussing several key areas, including opportunities for collaboration, conducting peer reviews, sharing data and organising joint training sessions,” the statement continued.

“The forum also explores ways to share costs and resources among the Crown Dependencies and Gibraltar, aiming to enhance overall policing efficiency and effectiveness.”

It also acknowledged that Mr Hardy was stepping away from his role at the end of this month, after more than five years at the helm.

“His contributions have been invaluable, and he will be greatly missed,” the statement added.

Mr Smith said: “The Small Island Forum is a vital platform for us to come together, share our experiences and learn from each other. It is through collaboration and mutual support that we can enhance our capabilities and better serve our communities.

“I really look forward to meeting my chief officer colleagues from the other Crown Dependencies and Gibraltar. They have an enormous amount of knowledge and experience which they always generously share. We have infinitely more in common with each other and a shared determination to keep our communities safe.”
