WATER and debris may come onto coastal roads around tomorrow morning’s high tide, with flooding and road closures possible, Jersey Met has warned.

Although the biggest tides of the current “spring” phase have passed, a height of just over 37 feet (11.4 metres) is set for 8.57am on Sunday, prompting the forecaster’s orange warning.

With high winds also forecast, waves are expected to break over sea walls, with the possibility of flooding and the closure of coastal roads. The most severe impact is likely during the period an hour either side of high tide at just before 9am.

“Spring” tides are named to reflect the wide difference between the high and low water marks at certain points of the lunar cycle, rather than giving any indication of the time of year.

States of Jersey Police has also reminded Islanders about the perils of parking on slipways when high tides are anticipated – the force said there had been multiple reports “near misses” in recent days with vehicles almost being swept into the water.
