FRENCH and Jersey fishers are expected to stage a protest at the Minquiers today over continued dissatisfaction with the way their livelihoods have been handled by their respective governments post-Brexit.

The peaceful protest will include a barbecue and picnic at the reef, to make a political point about the conditions they have to work in – including issues around permits, seasonal restrictions and red tape.

Normandy’s Regional Committee of Sea Fishing has said their members’ rights and access had been “continually eroded” and left to lead complex negotiations on quotas.

Jersey fishers are also expected to attend the protest, to open a dialogue and show solidarity over shared challenges such as the Marine Spatial Plan.
