TWO motorists have appeared in the Magistrate’s Court after speeding along the same road.
Hilton Mazombwe (24) drove his black BMW along Chemin des Basses Mielles – a road with a 40mph limit – at 61mph on 29 July.
On 2 August, Joao Micael De Abreu Santos (33) drove along the road in his silver Audi at 55mph.
Both admitted speeding when they appeared in court.
Mazombwe said he had been running late for work and added: “I’m really, really sorry. I was scared I was going to lose my job.”
He was fined £350 and had his licence endorsed – so that it will bear a record of the offence for three years.
Santos, who has previous convictions for speeding, was fined £500 and also had his licence endorsed for three years.
Advocate Emma Hollywood, defending, said Santos had written a letter of apology and has now fitted a speedometer alarm to his vehicle, telling the court: “His action matches his words.”
But the Magistrate, Bridget Shaw, told him: “There will come a time when the court will disqualify you if you carry on like this.”
