PIANISTS of grade five and above have a free opportunity to learn from “the new face and hands of modern jazz”, thanks to an initiative by Jazz en Jèrri.
The organisation, founded by singer Adria Godfrey to promote jazz to Jersey audiences, is sponsoring a workshop by Joe Webb and his trio on Saturday at the Jersey Academy of Music, ahead of their public concert that evening.
Ms Godfrey explained that she was hoping that the session – funded by an anonymous supporter of Jazz en Jèrri – would help in their mission to expand local audiences for the art form.
She said Mr Webb was regarded “as the new face and hands of piano as far as modern jazz is concerned”.
Ms Godfrey added: “My hope was to bring him over and show him particularly to some of the young over here who study classical music and may have a curiosity about what happens with this other type of music called jazz. It’s an open door to people to come and listen to this music with performers of the highest calibre.
“I just want people to have the chance to hear someone that I’m sure they’re going to hear a lot more about in the future. He is already very much a hot ticket.”
The workshop, which will run for around an hour, is open to pianists of grade five and above of all ages, and will also feature the other trio members – double bassist Will Sach and Sam Jesson on drums.
