PORTS of Jersey have released a new image of two floating holiday pods which are under construction and eventually destined for the St Helier Marina.

The pods, which measure 10m by 4.5m, will have space for up to four people to sleep. They are due to arrive in Jersey next month.

Following what Ports described as a “comprehensive selection procedure”, UK-based Waterpod was selected to build the pods. The company specialises in “eco-friendly” floating accommodation. Harbourmaster Captain Bill Sadler recently visited the construction site in Berkshire.

He said they were “looking forward to seeing the pods delivered and installed onsite”.

Waterpod director Tom Luke said they were nearing completion.

“There have been a few unique design challenges, including how to deal with wastewater given the large tidal range in Jersey. We have developed a custom system, with extra resilience, to ensure reliability all year around,” he said.

The pods have air-source heat pumps and solar panels to generate their own electricity.
