INDUSTRY experts and government officials will come together next month to discuss the future of agriculture in Jersey.

Registration is now open for this year’s Jersey Farming Conference, which takes place at La Mare Wine Estate on Thursday 7 November.

Topics include the future of the Jersey Royal potato, sustainable farming practices, landscape management and food resilience.

The conference is being organised by Farm Jersey, with funding from the government, and is sponsored by Jersey Water, Evelyn Partners and Normans Agriculture.

The event, which is also being live-streamed, is open to all businesses and individuals with an interest in the rural economy.

Farm Jersey chief executive John Garton said that the conference was taking place at a time of continuing challenges for farmers.

“It has been another tough year for our local farming industry, as many of them worked hard to deal with the impact of the very storms that delayed last year’s conference taking place they have also had to deal with the continuing impact of climate change bringing droughts and flooding, inflation and other new obligations which are having a growing impact on farmers’ work and incomes.”

The conference is separate from the Regen Gathering that took place last month.

Participants can register for the conference on Eventbrite or through a link on the event’s website home page: jerseyfarmingconference.com.
