A BEEKEEPER who has supplied a local supermarket with honey for half a century has announced his retirement.
Bernie Morel has been providing the Channel Islands Coop with hundreds of jars of honey each year since the early 1970s from his family-run operation, Morel Honey, in St Ouen. Last year, he supplied 1,774 jars.
Kingsley Pallot, a beekeeper who has worked with Mr Morel in recent years, will take over the responsibility of supplying the retailer.
Reflecting on his career, Mr Morel said: “I’ve dedicated my life to producing the best honey I can for the people of Jersey, and it has been an honour to work exclusively with the Coop.
“I know Kingsley will carry on the Jersey Honey tradition with the same care and dedication.”
Coop chief executive Mark Cox thanked Mr Morel for his service and wished him the best for his “well-earned retirement”.
Mr Cox said: “Throughout his five decades with us, Bernie has been a passionate and dedicated supplier, growing alongside our Coop and adapting to the changes and challenges of the business.
“From increased regulations to the introduction of barcodes, Bernie has weathered it all, ensuring that our members and customers always have access to the finest local honey.”
