A WARNING has been issued by the States police about the latest scam attempt targeting Islanders.
The fraud involves a text with details of a purported parking penalty charge.
Advice from the police is not to follow the link in the text or share any information.
The text scam is the latest in a series of scam warnings issued to Islanders.
Jersey’s police chief Robin Smith recently told a Scrutiny panel that the force had teamed up with banks to crack down on a rise in sophisticated “spoofing” scams – where scammers impersonate high-street banks such as HSBC – which have conned Islanders out of thousands.
Islanders began receiving surprise book parcels from Poland as part of a “brushing” scam in April.
The scam involves online sellers sending unordered items to people’s homes and posting fake positive reviews using the recipients’ names to boost their online ratings and visibility.
And this newspaper warned Islanders last month to ignore an online scam using a fake JEP news story in an attempt to encourage readers to visit a website and disclose their personal details to a “concerning” cryptocurrency trading platform.
