The showers at Les Quennevais Sports Centre have been closed due to “unsatisfactory” water quality in the latest setback at the government-run facility.
Infrastructure Minister Andy Jehan said they expected the showers to reopen by the start of October, “providing that the resample results prove satisfactory”.
The issue was discovered following refurbishment work which took place over the summer.
Customers have been advised to shower elsewhere in the meantime.
It has been confirmed that sinks and water fountains are unaffected by the issue and that all scheduled activities will continue as planned.
In a statement, Infrastructure Minister Andy Jehan said: “Following minor refurbishment of the ladies’ wet changing room at Les Quennevais Sports Centre, routine water samples were taken from the shower outlets on completion of the works to ensure the water quality was satisfactory in preparation for reopening to the public.
“The sample results from some showers gave results that were unsatisfactory and as a precaution all showers in the main building will remain closed while a chemical flush disinfection is completed and new samples analysed.
“We anticipate showers being reinstated in three weeks, providing that the resample results prove satisfactory.”
The problem follows a series of maintenance works at the St Brelade facility in recent months, including repairs to steel columns and electrical upgrades.
The swimming pools were closed from 15 July to 2 September for roof repairs, while the first-floor gym and spinning room were shut from 22 July to 5 August for electrical work.
In April, the entire building was temporarily closed due to power supply issues.
