FRAUDSTERS have been using images of the Bailiff, Sir Timothy Le Cocq, as well as the late Gary Burgess, to con Islanders into signing up for cryptocurrency scams.
The States police have warned Islanders that such scams are on the rise and are “especially challenging and compelling when they use persons well known in a community”.
Community response inspector Manny De Freitas said: “Our advice is this – do not be fooled by “get quick rich” schemes, and if you are interested in any form of investment then undertake your own research as opposed to following such advice or adverts.
“Fraudsters do not care about the impact of their actions and unfortunately it is becoming increasingly important, when thinking about parting with your money, to stop, think ‘fraud’ and be ever more suspicious.”
Anyone who thinks they have been a victim of fraud should alert both their bank and the States police.
