A VAN driver had a “lucky escape” on Tuesday morning after his vehicle almost fell off a precipice on the Island’s north-east coast.

The incident happened at about 9am while the employee from A1 Landcaping and Property Services was working at a home close to the St Catherine’s Lifeboat Station.

Watched by a number of onlookers from the nearby slipway, as well as swimmers in the sea, one of the company’s own vehicles rushed to the scene to tow the stricken vehicle away from the edge.

A spokesperson for A1 said the man concerned had been able to get out of the vehicle without any problem or injury, and that there had been “no big issue”.

One onlooker said: “It looked like a lucky escape for the driver – another couple of feet and the vehicle could have fallen a lot further down the bank.”
