A 34-YEAR-OLD man charged with three counts of manslaughter in relation to the sinking of the L’Ecume II trawler has been granted bail.

Ukrainian national Artur Sevash-Zade is charged in connection with the deaths of skipper Michael Michieli and crewmembers Jervis Baligat and Larry Simyunn.

The three men died when their fishing vessel, L’Ecume II, collided with Condor’s Commodore Goodwill freight ship on 8 December 2022.

Lewis Peter Carr (29), a UK resident, has also been charged with three counts of manslaughter in relation to the incident.

Mr Sevash-Zade appeared in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday to make a bail application.

After hearing representations from Advocate Mike Preston, who was representing Mr Sevash-Zade, and legal adviser Paul Lee, the Magistrate, Bridget Shaw, granted the bail application.

Bail conditions include residing at a specified address, adhering to a nightly curfew, regularly reporting to police, surrendering all photographic ID, and not leaving the Island.

Mr Sevash-Zade must not contact his co-defendant except via lawyers, and restrictions were also placed on the types of work he will be able to undertake, should he be permitted to do so.

Mr Sevash-Zade and Mr Carr are due to appear in the Royal Court on 27 September.
