Partnership offers electric-car hire for sustainable transport

CHANNEL Islands Coop has partnered with electric-car-share service EVie to provide Islanders with a small fleet of vehicles that can be hired for sustainable travel around Jersey.

From 5 September, EVie electric cars and vans will be available at four stores across the Island to collect and drop off.

This includes two “A2A” vehicles, which must be driven back to their collection point, and four “A2B” vehicles, which can be left at a different location, at St Helier Grand Marché, with two “floating spaces” at Beaumont Coop, and two spaces at St Brelade Coop and St Peter Grand Marché.

CI Coop head of community and sustainability Carl Winn said he was “delighted” to be partnering with EVie to supply the community with sustainable electric vehicles.

“Prioritising sustainability is a vital part of our overall mission at the Channel Islands Coop, and this partnership provides a fantastic opportunity to ensure that the residents of Jersey have the ability to make more sustainable choices,” he said.

EVie chief executive Nick Perchard-Rees added that with transport emissions accounting for nearly half of Jersey’s overall output, the collaboration with CI Coop was “crucial in making a real impact”.

“This partnership enables us to offer more Islanders the chance to reduce their carbon footprint and contribute to a healthier environment,” he said.
