TWO swimmers had to be rescued after getting into difficulty near Belcroute Bay on Saturday morning.

The pair, experienced swimmers on their usual swim, were caught out by a heavy shower passing through with strong winds and almost swept out to Noirmont Point.

After receiving a call just before 9am, Jersey Fire and Rescue Service launched the inshore rescue boat from La Haule slip.

By the time emergency services arrived at the scene, the swimmers had made it to rocks in the bay to wait for help.

The swimmers, described as “shaken” by one eyewitness, were helped into the inshore rescue boat and safely taken back to shore.

Jersey Fire and Rescue Service station commander Mark Bailey-Walker commended the actions of the public in recognising that the swimmers were in trouble, calling the coastguard and relaying information to emergency services.

He added that the swimmers made a “good decision” by not attempting to swim against the current and finding the closest point on the shore.
