BOULEY Bay, La Pulente and the Royal Square are among the Jersey locations used for the Bergerac reboot so far after filming started in the Island this week.
Those behind the new six-episode series – commissioned by BBC-owned broadcaster UKTV – have been shooting scenes in the Island since Thursday, with filming having already begun in the UK earlier this summer.
Announced in April, the new show is due to offer a “contemporary twist” on the popular detective drama created by Robert Banks Stewart, which starred John Nettles and ran on the BBC between 1981 and 1991.
It is being directed by Peaky Blinders director Colm McCarthy and features Irish actor Damien Molony in the lead role of Jim Bergerac.
Islanders passing through town on Friday might have spotted filming taking place in the Royal Square and the Central Market, including scenes with Jersey actor Timothy Renouf who is playing a lead role.
Producer Clare Alan said that Bouley Bay and La Pulente car park were also among the locations that had been used so far.
“We’ve obviously been here a few times to recce the Island and look at what exciting locations we can set some scenes in,” she explained.
“I know the crew are also hoping to do a lot of what we call GVs (general views) of Jersey and St Helier, and there’s obviously various beaches – general views of those, but we will also be doing some actual scenes on beaches and in cafés and restaurants.”
Ms Alan added: “You want that impact on screen and I think you really get it here.”
As was the case with the original Bergerac, a number of Islanders have also been able to make appearances as background characters following a successful call for extras.
Executive producer Brian Constantine said: “We are thrilled that, after many years in the making, Bergerac has returned to Jersey.
“We are very grateful to Islanders for their support and are encouraged by the calibre of the team involved.”
He added: “So far production is going smoothly and that is down to everyone’s dedication and hard work.”
