Artists create colourful splash at Marina

WATER-THEMED murals are being painted on the arches of the Elizabeth Marina this summer.

Five local artists have been commissioned to design and create triptych murals – pictures in three parts which together make up one image – as part of the “Art in the Arches” project, which aims to educate and inspire people about the importance of water.

The artwork has been commissioned by ArtHouse Jersey and sponsored by Jersey Water.

Led by visual artist Ben Robertson, workshops were held with each of the artists and local community groups at the Harbour Gallery earlier this year.

The artists involved – Will Bertram, Rob Allen, Lucy Oates, Zara Le Cornu and Oli Nightingale – are working towards a deadline of 19 September.

ArtHouse director Tom Dingle said it was “incredibly exciting seeing these murals starting to come to life”.

Mr Dingle added: “Being able to contribute to the atmosphere and landscape of this already loved area of Jersey is an exciting opportunity for all involved.”

Art in the Arches has also been supported by the Jersey Community Foundation, using funds from the Channel Islands Lottery.

It will be delivered in partnership with the Art in the Frame Foundation and Ports of Jersey.

A launch event will be held at the end of September to celebrate the finished murals.
