A NEW work café at Jersey College for Girls recently opened to students, providing a new space for dining and socialising at the school’s Mont Millais campus.

The café, Hector’s, is named after principal Carl Howarth’s dog.

Built using reclaimed wood, it takes after the Santander Work Café in Charing Cross.

The project came about after students from JCG approached the bank to help them transform their computer room.

JCG’s principal Carl Howarth said: “The project has massively exceeded our expectations and I have loved watching the reaction of students as they have seen the space for the first time. Their first reaction is “Wow – this is so much better than I expected”, their second is “You don’t believe you are in a school.”

Students chose quotes to go on the walls and the café’s name was selected as Hector the dog has been a part of the college since he was a puppy.

The new facility was inspired by the Santander work Café at Charing Cross

Mr Howarth said working with Santander had been a “real pleasure”.

“The students acknowledge how lucky they are and are very excited about using the new facility,” he added

Hector’s will be open from 8am to 5pm in term time.

Santander International chief executive James Pountney said: “Students have been at the heart of this project from the beginning, and we have been delighted to work with them to help create a new environment for the college.”
