THIS year’s Jersey International Air Display will be cancelled unless over £40,000 can be raised by next week.

Organisers have issued a last-ditch call to try and save the event, which is due to take place on 12 September.

Over £6,000 of the £50,000 fundraising target has so far been raised, with 260 individuals contributing to the appeal since it was launched last month.

But due to final commitments that need to be made, event organiser Mike Higgins said they had until Friday 16 August or they would be left with “no option” but to cancel this year’s display.

Mr Higgins said they were “exceptionally grateful” to those who had donated to the appeal.

But he said that if the thousands of spectators who flock to St Aubin’s Bay every year to watch the display could contribute a small amount, “we would not only have sufficient money to put on this year’s display but also be in a good position for next year’s display and future year displays”.

He also called on businesses who benefitted from the crowds to donate.

The Air Display was “part of the DNA” of Jersey, Mr Higgins added. “We need your help.”
