TICKET sales for this year’s Battle of Flowers are “well ahead” of last year’s figures, according to event organisers.
Battle director Adam Flynn described sales as “incredibly encouraging”, after last year’s event was affected by bad weather and a lack of visitors.
He said: “Teams across the Island are pulling out all the stops. It’s wonderful to see these magnificent floats in the sheds come alive.
“We’re expecting plenty of show-stopping exhibits and with entertainment between the floats, we’re creating a carnival atmosphere.”
Mr Flynn added: “Ticket sales are incredibly encouraging. We’re well ahead of where we were last year, and we’re expecting a final surge in the next two days.”
This year’s event will see all 12 parishes participate for the first time in a generation, with an Island-wide roadshow launched to connect with supporters and boost ticket sales.
The parade will be marked by the return of St Ouen and St Mary after a long hiatus, and the formation of a “Northern Alliance”, featuring St Martin, St John, and Trinity.
Organisers added that today is the deadline to sign up as a volunteer marshal for the Grand Parade on 9 August, the Moonlight Parade on 10 August and a concert on 11 August. Volunteers will receive free entry to events they assist with and complimentary meals.
The event will feature performances by Eurovision star Sam Ryder this Friday, UK Queen (a Queen tribute act with Jersey-born lead guitarist Johnny Senett) the following day, and former Wet Wet Wet frontman Marti Pellow the day after that.
