UK tradesmen admit attempt to bring drugs into Jersey

Jersey Magistrate's Court (38708212)

TWO painters and decorators have admitted trying to smuggle class A and B drugs into Jersey.

Darren Christopher Bailey (45) and 38-year-old Anthony O’Reilly admitted the offences when they appeared in the Magistrate’s Court.

The court heard that they had come to the Island on 31 July on the ferry from Poole for five weeks of painting and decorating work, but were found to have brought cocaine and cannabis with them.

The drugs were thought to have been for their own use rather than for onward supply.

Relief Magistrate David Le Cornu adjourned sentencing to allow time for a pre-sentence report.

Bailey and O’Reilly were remanded in custody to prevent them from attempting to return to England and are due to reappear in court by video link on 23 August.
