MORE than three centuries of voluntary service contributed by 19 volunteers has been honoured by the Jersey Eisteddfod.
At its annual general meeting, the organisation’s president, St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft, paid tribute to the commitment of the volunteers in the staging of its two annual celebrations – the Festival of the Creative Arts and the Festival of the Performing Arts.
In total, the helpers donated some 325 years of service, recognised in a series of awards which included the Eisteddfod’s top award, the Black Horse, presented to an individual who has given outstanding service to the association over a number of years. This year, it was awarded to Jill Bartholomew whose first involvement was as a competitor. She now chairs the handwriting and calligraphy section and the Festival of the Performing Arts committee.
Recipients of long service awards were Pam Laurens (catering and publicity), Paul Anderson (chair of adult and youth arts and crafts), Sue Chipperfield (chair of trophies) and Iris Fritz (secretary of the Festival of the Performing Arts and organiser of the combined languages gala). Vas Anderson received a paperweight for assistance with the adult and youth arts and crafts section of the Festival of Creative Arts.
